i was only suggesting a possible date.  If we can't all make it I think we should wait until we all can, or it won't be as enjoyable.

Hey, dudes.  Please forgive me but I cannot make either 8/21 or 8/28.  But I hereby grant permission to use the name Reactors and any derivations without me.

Take care,

Only a couple of times?  I was thinking that there would be one time and if it was enjoyable we'd try to do it somewhat regularly, maybe once a month or so.

a tape would be ok. we're only a gonna do this a couple times anyhoo, so I'd just put a few songs in there we could jam on - if you could make a copy of the final Reactors show for me I would appreciate it - don't have one

Yes its time for us to get off our collective ass and actually do something.  Bill, are you there?  I say let's aim for the 21st or 28th, depending on Doug's availability.  And sure, why not bring instruments like Matt said, what the hell?  As far as material, I'll make a tape of the song possibilities mentioned so far, along with ones I've listened to on our old tapes which I think might be worth considering.  We could listen together and decide which ones we want to actually learn again, then I could make paired-down copies.  Once I started listening to them I found that there were quite a few I wouldn't mind trying to do again.  I also was just listening to Donna the Buffalo's "Rockin' in the Weary Land", and think we could have fun trying to do just about anything on that recording.  If you don't own it you should.  It sounds like we did, a bit, only more countryfied. New Rock and Reggae Cajun Countr! y Roll New Orleans Funk Western Wave, or something like that.

Anyway, before I start making a tape, what do you think?

I'm heading off to Vermont and will be back on the 16th.

Lets start looking at dates for starting up this old thang.

I think it would be okay to schedule something without Bill if the timing works out, I guess, though I really would like to have his input before we start deciding on anything.  Saturday would be best for me, afternoon preferably, but I'm open.  Weeknights would likely be tough, but possible if that's what can work.  And I like the idea of bringing other new songs, the more I think about it.

I started listening to the tape of the final show in the quest to figure out which songs I might be interested in doing again (haven't come to any conclusions yet) - pretty bad sound quality, some okay performances, some nice segues (Cities into Don't Let Me Spoil Your Party, for instance), some songs I had no recollection that we did (when I typed the list I didn't know what they were either), but it's getting me pumped.

By the way, Eli, I have a dialup connection at both work and home, so the large downloads are just a PITA for me (including the world image on the Reactors page - I waited 3 minutes for the page to finish loading.

Also, in the complaint department, please don't forward any non-Reactors things to my work email (and generally I hate those passalong email thingees), I'm actually really busy there, and the Reactor stuff I just quickly read and try to wait to reply until I get home anyway.

Eli, I hope you can play an actual bass, it sounds so much better than a keyboard playing bass.  Start stretching your fingers, or maybe try having Kelly use a rolling pin on them.

are we thinking we get together before Bill gets back for a prelim,(and get copies of Reactor tapes)  and then set a date to make some noise?

Hi.  I do not have Gear.  Doug had offered to lend me his bass.  Sam has a speaker cabinet.  I had mentioned buying a minimal base head.  My devotion to playing music is truly inspirational, isn't it??

Sorry, I cannot participate if the use of beer is involved due to my religious restrictions.  Crack is OK, though.

I understand Bill was ejected from the Tour De France for "inappropriate behavior."  When will he learn???

I updated the website http://home.comcast.net/~elisokal/ReactorsMLC/.  At least I'm good for something.

I thought I saw Bill right behind Lance Armstrong on Stage 14 of the Tour De France. Usually people have "extra tickets" to, like, a Uriah Heep concert, not France. That story is pure Bill. Eli - do you still have gear? as in bass and an amp? I still play a bit, so no arthur-itis has set in on the digits yet. I can't see or hear anything though, so that could be an issue.

Material - I'm thinking we just go out and buy a rubboard and an accordion, and come out playing zydeco music. I could do a Saturday night as well - can we bring beer???

Eli Sokal <elisokal@comcast.net> wrote:

> Where is Bill?

Hideeeee Hoh!!!  I spoke to Bill on Sunday 7/11 when he informed me he was leaving the following Wednesday for FRANCE for a 2 week trip!  A cousin called out of the blue and "had an extra ticket."  WTF?  That's what he said, I kid you not.

Bill when you get back, please let me know if I heard you right.  Also, while you were there, did you manage to teach the French some manners?

Availability

I can do occasional weekends and/or evenings and prefer Saturday night.  Doug, thanks for offering the use of your house.

Material / 1st Encounter

Thanks for the list, Sam.  I want to supply a definitive input/opinion here but cannot.  I just have some inclinations, sorry about the bullets:

Instrumentation - My stubby fingers are now old too.  I would like to find an instrument I can physically play.  Something that sounds like a base guitar, that's as easy to play as a gazoo.

It would be nice able to play without extensive equipment.  Is it just me, or was it a huge hassle setting up and breaking down for 6 hours just to for 2?  Drum kits, snakes, sound-checks, mics, and more cables than Comcast, Jeeeeeeeshsh.

Catching Up - It would be fun to catch up on everybody's current musical faves.  Everybody could bring CDs with two or three favorite songs from the last 19 years.  We'd listen to them all, and ask, what the hell were you thinking???

Okay everybody.  Does a non-music-playing meeting sound like a plan?  And when?  Should we do it on a weekend or a weeknight?

All:

I'm up for Reactors MLC. I reviewed the list, and got a laugh out of a couple on there (what is/was Hutzler Deckfat?) btw - Donut Shop was an Eli tune that we played - for some reason I remember the title, but not the tune. By looking at the list below, I could probably fake a couple of these songs right now.

Has anybody heard from the Bish?

Also - Doug where do you live?

Sam Nitzberg <grebztinmas@worldshare.net> wrote:

Hey everyone.  Sam here.

I don't know by looking at the cryptic email between Eli and Matt, but Matt and Steve- do you have any idea what we're thinking here?  Excuse me if you know this already.  We're trying to see if we can play together some time, do some of the old songs and maybe some other new ones.  Maybe a Saturday afternoon.  Doug has offered his house as a location to do this.  Doug, Eli and I have discussed the idea of us all getting together first without instruments and each bringing a couple of song ideas (maybe one old and one new).  We could all then go home and try to learn our parts before some other scheduled get-together.  I have tapes of many of the songs we did, and of course there's the original versions of the cover tunes, so once a list of songs we want to do is decided upon, tapes which include these songs could potentially be distributed. This whole endeaver would not be for any other purpose than our own entertainment! ! -- no long term reunion tour in the offing.  Maybe a once-a-month or so practice just to play.

So...

Here's the list of Reactors songs I have on tape.  Most are on cassette but a few are only on reel-to-reel tape, and I no longer have a reel-to-reel machine.  I do not have any old set lists like I thought I might (I did find a bunch of old posters, articles, reviews, etc.).  I know there were other songs we did, but I have no idea what they are (what was "Donut Shop"?).
